UK Visa Options are Limited for Aussies and Kiwis
Our survey of Aussie and Kiwi professionals working in London highlighted that 83% consider the United Kingdom to be a better place to work than Australia (10%) or New Zealand (7%). Sadly, most of these highly-regarded professionals will have to leave the United Kingdom within 2 years.
The rules for working in the United Kingdom are very simple. Either you qualify for a British passport, EU passport or UK visa which entitles people to work in the United Kingdom.
Just ten percent of Aussie and Kiwi professionals surveyed had a British or EU passport. Ninety percent work in the United Kingdom on one of the limited range of UK visa options available to Aussies and Kiwis.
Last year, over three-quarters of Aussie and Kiwi professionals that we helped to find work in London, had a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility) visa. This entitles them to live there for just two years. A further 6% qualified for the UK Ancestry visa which entitles them to work in the United Kingdom for five years. UK visa options are very limited beyond these. Less than 4% of the people surveyed had been sponsored by their UK employer through the Tier 2 (General) visa.
Explore your UK Visa Options
The good news is UK visa options are clearly set out on the UK government website. The visa application process is also quite quick and simple. And there are far more Tier 5 (Youth Mobility) visas available than actually used.
